David Lang Black Belt Essay
The path to Black Belt is not just about kicks and punches. It is about becoming a better person. When I started training at Family Martial Arts Center, I was looking for something — I just didn’t know what it was yet.
What I found was a community. Master Wayne doesn’t just teach martial arts; he builds character. Every class, every belt test, every moment of struggle taught me something about discipline, perseverance, and respect that I carry into every part of my life.
The hardest part of the Black Belt journey isn’t the physical challenge — it’s showing up consistently, even when you don’t feel like it. It’s honoring your commitment even when life gets in the way. That lesson has been more valuable to me than any technique I have learned.
I am proud to have earned this rank, but I am more proud of who I have become in the process. Thank you to Master Wayne, to my fellow students, and to my family for supporting this journey. The Black Belt is not the end — it is the beginning.
